AMD Polaris Release Just Weeks Away!

With Nvidia having launched their Pascal GeForce GTX 1080 and 1070 graphics cards, all eyes are on AMD. Reportedly set to launch around Computex, AMD’s new Polaris based GPUs using GCN 4.0 are expected to bring a 2.5x increase in efficiency and bring VR to the masses. According to the latest rumour, AMD is reportedly planning for a special event to occur just before Computex to show off their cards.
Set to happen at Macau, China, the launch event will be attended by a few select tech press but likely live streamed as well. This is not unlike Nvidia’s Pascal launch last week or AMD’s own Capsaicin event back in March. As Computex is to start on May 31st, we can expect the launch event to be either May 27th, 28th or 30th. Once the cards are revealed, AiB partners are expected to showcase them right away during Computex, with retail availability to follow shortly.
Given that the Nvidia GTX 1080 will become available on May 27th, perhaps AMD will want to host their event then to steal some attention. Of course, everything is probably set in stone already at this point. Hopefully, Polaris will offer a compelling alternative to what Nvidia is offering with Pascal.
