More AMD R9 Fury Specifications Revealed!

We loved the R9 Fury X, the fact that it was an enclosed card with no vents made it a great look; however, the additional liquid cooling unit meant you needed a case large enough to host the 120mm radiator and also small enough so the pipes can reach between the card and the radiator.
Our friends over a TweakTown have now reported that the R9 Fury will ditch the water cooling unit and add on a traditional air cooler. “According to our industry insiders, the Radeon R9 Fury will feature 3584 Stream Processors, down from the 4096 on the full Fury X. The Fiji-based GPU will be clocked at 1050MHz, which is identical to that of the Fury X. We have 4GB of High Bandwidth Memory that provides the same 512GB/sec of bandwidth, clocked at 500MHz (1GHz effective). We are being told to expect temperatures of the Fiji PRO-based R9 Fury to be less than 75C, which is considerably higher than the 50C or so from the watercooled Fury X.”
So one restriction that sub-vendors have faced with the Fury X is the lack of creativity that they can implement into an already great cooling solution. With the air coolers, sub-vendors can now add their own flairs and we should start seeing some custom designs hit the market within the month.
We could possibly see a performance drop of around 10-15%, but if that’s followed with a similar price drop, we could see a great option against the NVIDIA GTX 980. Are you looking forward to the R9 Fury graphics card? Let us know in the comments.
