Check Out The RX 480/470 PCB in All Its Glory!

AMD’s upcoming RX 480 and RX 470 graphics cards are designed to offer a fantastic gaming experience for users who don’t want to spend an absolute fortune. In particular, the RX 480 is capable of delivering premium VR while starting from a mere $199 for the 4GB version. This is incredible value-for-money and could attract many people to the PC platform for the very first time. Not only that, it should help make VR become more mainstream and bring down the prices of VR equipment. According to early reports, the RX 480 manages similar performance to the R9 Nano and should be able to defeat the GTX 980 in most games. Of course, this isn’t verified and we’ll have to wait for official benchmarks before knowing the real picture. Whatever the case, I’m excited by the RX 480 and it’s important to not overlook the RX 470.

According to images provided by Newegg, the RX 480 and RX 470 will share the same PCB design and contains 8 single-sided memory modules which support up to 8GB configurations. Additionally, the board is powered by a single 6 pin PCI-E connector and 6+1 phases. Funnily enough, this is actually more than the reference GTX 1080. It’s great to finally see the PCB used on AMD’s main Polaris graphics solutions and the reference design looks excellent. Thankfully, there’s no too long to wait for Polaris 10 and I’m excited to see the impact it makes in the GPU market.
