Facebook Issue Apology After Removing Dead Mafia Bosses Memorial Posts

Facebook issue apology after removing memorial posts to Mafia boss

Facebook spent years trying to get me to play Mafia Wars. Given that, you would think they would be a little more tolerant of the organization. They have, however, had to issue a rather swift apology after removing memorial posts on the social media site. These were, incidentally, memorial posts to a former Mafia boss.

Salvatore ‘Toto’ Riina was a Mafia boss, who after being given 26 life sentences, recently passed away in prison and following this, a memorial page was set up by his family on Facebook to commemorate him.

The social media site subsequently removed the posts. It is unclear if this was by accident or policy, however, they have since apologized to the family, insisting that the posts were removed ‘by mistake’.

I am not aware if Mark Zuckerberg awoke to find a horses head in his bed, but if I was going to list the groups I would least like to annoy, the Mafia would be reasonably high on that.

Facebook is already having to answer to the law in America via Senate hearings. I doubt that they would also wish to answer questions to the organized crime aspect as well.

Mark Zuckerberg is not sleeping with the fishes

As one of the major key figures in the Mafia world, Salvatore ‘Toto’ Riina was buried in Corleone. Yes, the same Sicilian town made famous by the Godfather movie franchise. It is, however, the final resting place to many of the Mafia’s highest.

In a report via SkyNews, his death may have sparked unrest in the Mafia world. Crime experts fear that his passing may spark an anticipated power struggle for his replacement within the organization.

While Facebook’s algorithm might be mistaking pictures of Robins for pornography, I find their ‘error’ excuse a little slim in this regard.

What do you think? A genuine error? An induced U-turn? The infamous algorithm? Let us know in the comments!
