Gelid Slim Silence A-Plus Low Profile (1U Server) CPU Cooler

Today we are taking a look at a CPU cooler that is very different to the types of CPU coolers we normally look at. We are examining the Gelid Slim Silence A-Plus. This is an ultra compact CPU cooler designed for AMD sockets AM2/AM2+/AM3/AM3+/FM1/FM2 that has been designed specifically for small form factor uses. The Slim Silence A Plus comes in at just 28mm high meaning it is perfect for 1U servers where the maximum total height per shelf is 44.45 mm which also includes the motherboard and RAM. It is difficult for us to test this up against many competitors because we know of very few – even the Noctua NH-L9a at 38mm high is too high for a 1U server. Despite this we will still be comparing this against the AMD reference stock cooler that is roughly 60mm high to get a grasp on what kind of performance the Gelid Slim Silence A-Plus offers.

This is only going to be a “quick review” so without any further ado let’s move on to the rest of the review.

      1. Yeah u right…So by the time that it doesn’t look any better than the stock cooler maybe u should reward it also…£24.75?Really??

        1. £16.99 – again try reading. Secondly, it is HALF the height of the stock cooler. It is intended for usage scenarios where anything above 30mm is TOO TALL to fit. Please find another CPU cooler with a height of less than 30mm that is capable of cooling an AMD CPU. I think you are missing the point quite significantly. Not that it matters because you clearly don’t understand what this product is meant for so I don’t know why I am even bothering to try and explain.

          1. I understand that is NOT a real diference between 30-33-35-38 mm…This is a not wrist watch cooler…(Anyone disagree with that?)…And i understand that i want to buy a cooler which COOLS my cpu (At least better than the stock one!!!)…It’s a different thing to talk about a 6cm or 10cm cooler…But a few mm/less tan 9?…Imo one of these are WAY better options…

          2. A 1U server can only take CPU coolers less than 30mm. This measures 28mm, the Noctua NH-L9a measures 37mm and Scythe Kozuti measures 40mm. That means that only this cooler would fit in a 1U server. This cooler is designed for 1U servers.

  1. It doesn’t look any better than AMD stock cooler.
People can choose it only because of it’s ultra compactness. Best for compact systems. 🙂
