A Closer Look
Gigabyte’s G1 Sniper A88X FM2+ motherboard is a solid looking motherboard. It continues with that green and black theme that we’ve come to know and expect from the G1 Killer series.
The CPU socket area only has a modest heatsink to cater for its highly efficient 6 phase CPU VRM, there are also two additional phases for the memory banks found on the right of the motherboard.
Sadly there is only one CPU fan header, so dual fan CPU coolers will need a splitter cable. The CPU 8 pin is conveniently placed at the top of the motherboard.
4 DIMMs are provided for up to 64GB of 2400MHz memory.
A healthy 8 SATA III 6Gbps ports are provided by the AMD A88X chipset.
PCI connectivity is also extremely generous with three PCIe 1X slots, two PCIe 16X slots and dual legacy PCI.
At the bottom of the board you are provided with front panel audio, a COM port, TPM header, dual USB headers and front panel connectors.
The audio section is position near the rear I/O audio jacks. You can see the LED tracer that marks the divided PCBs.
The rear I/O has dual USB 2.0, a PS/2 combo port, DVI, VGA, HDMI, dual USB 3.0, the USB DAC, two more USB 2.0, Gigabit Ethernet and 6 audio jacks including an optical S/PDIF.
