Microsoft Puts Date on Xbox Scorpio Reveal

As expected, Microsoft will officially unveil its new console – a more powerful iteration of its existing Xbox One hardware, codenamed Scorpio – at a special event at E3 2017 this Summer, with the Redmond company formally announcing the date and time of the big reveal. According to a Microsoft statement, the Xbox Scorpio briefing will take place on 11th June, 2017, at 2pm Pacific Time.

“E3 is around the corner and we wanted to get in touch early to let you know that the Xbox media briefing will be held on Sunday, June 11 at 2 PM PT / 10 PM BST,” Microsoft’s statement reads. “This is a change from previous years, so be sure to mark your calendars!”

“We’re looking forward to an exciting E3 where we’ll showcase more games and experiences,” it adds. “We’ll also be hosting another Xbox FanFest event this year. We’ll have more details soon.”

The Scorpio was officially announced at last year’s E3, where Microsoft revealed that the Xbox One refresh would introduce more powerful hardware – the console is widely believed to contain a 6-TFLOP GPU – and 4K resolution, HDR gaming, while still being part of the Xbox One generation.

Xbox Head Phil Spencer told Eurogamer after last year’s E3 reveal: “Scorpio is for the person who’s got a 4K television, who’s really focused on 4K gaming. It’s going to be a premium price over what we’re selling this one for, and both of them will exist in the market at the same time. Scorpio is for your 4K gamer. And that’s what we designed it for.”

The Xbox Scorpio is expected for release during the Holiday season of 2017.
