ASUS ROG Maximus V Formula pictured at CeBit 2012

ASUS has been showing off the latest and greatest in its Republic of Gamers line at CeBit. The Maximus V Formula motherboard is an Ivy Bridge, Z77 and LGA 1155 motherboard with a twist. Overclocking is dependent on strong VRM and ASUS has recognised this by implementing water cooling capabilities into the heatsink which allows users to water cool their VRM components. The 12 phase Digi+ VRM takes a 24pin motherboard, 4pin ATX and 8pin EPS power connector to power itself. What this means is providing Ivy Bridge chips are highly overclockable then the VRM won’t be a limiting factor as the liquid cooling will make sure you can get the most out of your chip.
Other than that the set up is pretty much what we’ve been saying on most other Z77 motherboards. There is:
- 4 DIMM slots supporting up to 32GBs of 2600MHz DDR3
- 2 PCI-E 3.0 16X slots
- 3 PCI-E 2.0 1X slots
- 1 PCI-E 2.0 16X (electrically 4X) slot
- PLX PCI-E 2.0 bridge to allow for such a high number of PCI-E lanes
- ThunderFX Audio
- Gigabit ethernet
- Dual-band Wi-Fi module
- The usual ROG exclusive features (ROG connect..etc)
