Co-Founder of id Software interested in making a new old school FPS

John Romero, co-founder of id Software and key designer of Doom, Wolfenstein, and Quake, has confirmed he is still interested in creating a new, “old school” FPS. When asked via Twitter if he had given up on making an FPS, he responded
“Definite not, I have plans…”
While that is vague, and possibly fan bait, it also opens a realm of questions and possibilities. Currently Romero works with Loot Drop, a company he founded in 2010, which specializes in mobile and social games. Could an old-school shooter be in store for mobile?
He did confirm in a second Tweet that any new FPS will not be Daikatana 2. For those too young to remember Daikatana, the game was supposed to be a glorious next installment for Romero, the development of which was bogged in controversy and frequent delays. When the game did release in 2000, it was built on the already dated Quake II engine, and didn’t hold up to its promise.
