FM2 to be incompatible with FM1, disappointing news for AMD customers
The first pictures of AMD’s “Trinity” APUs based off the FM2 platform have been unleashed on the chinese website ChipHell. However, AMD customers will be disappointed to see that there isn’t compatibility between the FM2 and FM1 platforms, the FM1 platform sports 905 pins and the FM2 platform 1 less with 904 and in addition to that the pins are arranged differently meaning you won’t see an FM1 APU fitting in an FM2 board or vice versa. The only continuity we will see between the two platforms is the A75 chipset will be passed on to the FM2 platform. The picture above shows the two APUs side by side, Llano is on the left and Trinity is on the right.

In my experience putting an AM3 processor on an AM2+ motherboard had stability issues. It was not until my AM2+ motherboard went dead and had to replace my motherboard that I got to use my Phenom II x6 1055T on my main system.
Lano is for the mainstream mobile market
Trinity will be for high end mobile
