Hard drive prices keeps on going up, a website allows you to track the price history

As has been reported these past few days, with the floods in Thailand hard drive prices are not getting better, and when Seagates’ own CEO predicts a year into this “HDD tragedy”, you’re not left with much hope.

Thanks to the website Camelegg.com, you’re able to track prices for various products listed on Newegg, but I warn you not to go into the HDD section unless you absolutely have too… it’s very scary. As a matter of fact, people with health problem should not keep on reading, eTeknix will deny any responsibility.

After that warning, we can see that only a couple of months were sufficient to raise the price of the Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200RPM on Newegg (ST31000524AS) from a very affordable $49.99 to a heart stopping $149.99 (I warned you!). EU are not having a better time at this, the price went from approximately €50 to €109.

Same goes for Western Digital’s 1TB 7200RPM (RE4 WD1003FBYX) that started at $107.99 but went to a whopping $249.99…and with €75.50 to €196.56 in the EU, I wouldn’t say things are better.

Another respectable hard drive manufacturer is Hitachi, but neither do they have it easier, with 1TB 7200RPM (HDS721010DLE630) starting at $64.99 a while back has now gone up to $149.99 while the EU is in the same mess with €45.68 to €77.93.

Is it just me, or mother nature doesn’t really like us?

Anyway, if you’re interested in following the pricing, you can check the US prices here (same website as mentioned above) while buy.fudzilla.com is offering the EU prices. Mind you, one is not better than the other.
