OCZ releases the all knew Vector Series SSD with their proprietary Barefoot 3 Controller. As one of would expect from a proprietary controller, this is their in-house design.
They promise will deliver exceptional I/O performance, enhanced reliability and endurance, and a host of differentiated features to empower high performance laptops, desktops, and workstations with superior storage capabilities.
The Vector SSD Series is available in 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB capacities with advertised read performance of upto 550 MB/s, write performance of up to 530 MB/s with random read performance of up to 100,000 IOPS.
The Vector comes inside a 7 mm. sleek alloy housing keeping thin form factor notebooks in mind- and each Vector SSD is also bundled with a 3.5-inch desktop adapter bracket and Acronis True Image cloning software (just like Kingston’s desktop upgrade kit- minus the screw driver) to enable quick and easy data transfer from your primary hard drive to the Vector SSD storage.
the Barefoot 3 controller is said to overcome the shortcomings associated with MLC NAND (which MLC NAND will be use is something that OCZ didn’t specify) and is specified to deliver 20GB host writes per day for 5 years- that’s 36,500 GB of total host write speed. Also, just to make sure, 5 years of warranty period is provided.
As usual, there’s only one way to find out the performance of this drive- run the drive with ATTO Endurance test like there’s no tomorrow!
