Prolimatech Black Genesis CPU Cooler Review

prolimatech_black_genesis_front_pageProlimatech’s Genesis CPU cooler has been out for a while now and I myself have read a tonne of reviews on this rather freakish looking CPU cooler from Prolimatech. Put simply they’ve been a mixed bag, some people have raved about how innovative the design is and how good the performance is while others have called it out for being over-priced and lacking performance for its size. Today I am hoping to give you my own take on the Prolimatech Genesis, and we’ve got the slightly newer black variant in for testing. I will be putting the Prolimatech Genesis through the usual battery of tests and then seeing at the end of it all if I think it deserves one of our awards. These days I seem to be becoming increasingly stingy with my awards and I really look for something special so the Prolimatech Genesis is going to have to pull something good out of the bag.

As you may or may not have guessed from the image the Prolimatech Genesis aims to do a bit more then the traditional CPU cooler and has a upright “tower” heatsink mainly in charge of cooling the CPU and a secondary horizontal heatsink that also cools the CPU but mainly provides downdraft onto the memory and CPU socket area to provide active cooling around your CPU socket. Furthermore the Prolimatech Genesis is ready for the installation of up to three fans, potentially all 140mm – that is two on the vertical heatsink and one the horizontal heatsink. Though if you were feeling very adventurous you could even add a fourth 140mm fan on the horizontal heatsink providing it is slim profile otherwise you’d have RAM compatibility issues or compatibility issues with the heatpipes that bend into the fan space area. Though we are testing with a pair of 140mm fans today which is probably what most people will choose for given the price constraints of an already expensive CPU cooler.
