PS4 Pro Boost Mode Improves Performance in Older Games

PC gamers are more than familiar with the concept of faster hardware making their games run faster, it’s pretty simple, but this isn’t something that translates over the world of consoles so easily. The games are made for identical systems and set to use fixed CPU and GPU numbers time after time. The PS4 Pro does have more power than the stock model, and developers can patch their games to address the new hardware properly, improving performance, graphics, resolution and more at the same time.
So what about games that haven’t been patched? Until now they just ran like they always have on the stock PS4. However, the new 4.5 update is in beta testing and getting ready for a public roll-out of its new Boost Mode can deliver “improved gameplay, including higher frame rates, for some games that were released before the introduction of PS4 Pro.”
Here’s the catch, not all games are going to work well. It could cause glitches, it may cause some games to run too fast dependant on how their engine was programmed. However, most games will likely see a straight up boost in performance, and with the option to toggle the boost mode on or off, trying it certainly couldn’t hurt.
