Over 1 Million PlayStation 4 Consoles Sold Within 24 Hours

Sony have been quick off the mark this week, shifting well over 1 million PlayStation 4 consoles in North America alone in less than 24 hours. To put that number into perspective, the Nintendo Wii U got off to a great start when it launched and that took a week to hit 400,000 units sold.
With Sony setting them selves a challenging sales target of 5 million units by the end of the Fiscal year (March 2014) this is enough to give them a great start. With the console still to launch in two more global regions there is now little doubt that Sony will hit their sales target.
Of course there is a thorn in their side with the Xbox One about to launch and it is already going head to head with the PlayStation 4 in pre-orders as we approach Christmas. It will be interesting to see how long Sony can maintain their sales momentum and for how long, but if the first 24 hours is anything to go by we can expect to see a bigger uptake of a new console generation than ever before.
This will have great benefits to early adopters as online games such as Call of Duty will enjoy well populated servers for the console, many people will also have friends who also have the console and the establishment of the new consoles online ecosystem will be pretty swift over all.
