The 144Hz MG279Q Monitor by Asus Is Limited to 90Hz in FreeSync

The Asus MG279Q is a highly anticipated monitor that boasts an IPS panel as well as FreeSync support and a maximum operating frequency of 144Hz. However, judging by a recent forum post on Sweclockers, it looks like the monitor comes with some significant limitations as far as FreeSync is concerned, limitations that cause it to top off at a frequency of just 90Hz. It’s true you should never believe everything that comes up on forums, but the Asus FreeSync FAQ also confirms the news quite clearly.

The page informs users that “FreeSync only can be activated within 35Hz ~ 90Hz”, which is quite a significant drop from 144Hz. Still, this is not necessarily a reason to ignore the product, especially since AMD’s new technology promises to deliver a smooth and enjoyable visual experience without stuttering or screen tearing. The problem is that Asus has been advertizing the MG279Q as a 144Mz monitor, which is technically true but not exactly right as far as the buyer is concerned. Let’s face it, if you’re going to buy this monitor, you’re going to buy it for gaming with FreeSync, which means that it’s never going to deliver 144Hz when you need it most.

That being said, this looks like a good all-round monitor, and it could still prove to be a very good investment if you are satisfied with 90Hz.

What do you think about the Asus MG279Q?
