1,969 Piece Saturn 5 Lego Rocket to Go on Sale June 1st

The iconic rocket that went to the moon is set to make a return as a 1:110 scale Lego Rocket.

Standing a circa 1 meter tall when assembled the rocket has been created to commemorate the “icon of space exploration”. With 1,969 pieces even this number is not incidental as 1969 is the year in which Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin first walked the moon.

Incredibly the model has been designed to work as a genuine ‘3 stage’ separation with the S-IC, S-II and lunar lander all being individual, but integrated, parts of the impressive total rocket design. The set also comes with 3 newly designed astronaut figurines and a booklet about the manned Apollo missions.

The Lego rocket was designed by Felix Stiessen and Valerie Roche and was created from a “shared passion for space exploration”. Despite never having directly collaborated (in person) they created the design and submitted it to the Lego Ideas team. From there the idea was accepted and with a final design from Michael Psiaki and Carl Thomas Mirriam, we have a retail model which will hit stores shelves on June 1st.

Lego has an excellent reputation for being more than happy to consider ideas from the general public for their next design. You may recall having seen a recently pitched idea for a Rick and Morty themed rocket ship. It is however this excellent attitude towards its consumer base that has allowed the company to continue growing and I’m sure there are many people reading this who are already anxiously googling this to see where they can order this item.

The Lego Saturn 5 Rocket will be blasting off from the shelves on June 1st.
