A Closer Look & Performance

One thing I’ve always loved about 1MORE is their attention to detail and quality. Even on their more modestly priced products, you’ll find nothing but premium quality designs, and that’s certainly true of the new ComfoBuds 2. 1MORE has tinkered with the overall shape of the headphones this time around too. While the last model did live up to their name of being comfortable, these look even better.

One of the main changes is those little rubber tips. They had integrated rubber grips on the old model that could not be removed. However, you can now pull those off and swap them out for the alternative size provided in the box. They’re not like full-size earbuds; they’re just little grips, but having the large or small option can improve comfort. Interestingly, I later found that the left earbud was more comfortable with the small, the right with the large, so it’s worth tinkering with these.

Another welcome feature is the enclosed design. The earbuds are really tightly moulded with only some pinholes for the various microphone technologies. However, I’m sure they’re well protected too, as the headphones have an IPX5 certification IPX5 offers protection against sustained low-pressure water jet spray. It can be chucking it down with rain, and you should not have to worry about the headphones.

On this side, there are some infrared sensors, which will automatically detect if you’ve just removed the earbuds from your ear. On doing so, it’ll automatically pause your media. Of course, it works both ways, put them back in, and it’ll resume. I like this, as it means I don’t miss my music when having a short conversation or checking something. However, you can turn this feature off in the 1MORE app if you prefer.

While you’re in the app, you can tinker with some other settings too. You can set commands tapping, double-tap, and even a triple-tap of the headphones. You tap on either headphone at the top of the spine. By default, though, they’re set to play/pause, answer/hangup and triple tap opens up your active voice assistant.

The drivers on these are the same as the last model, which is no bad thing. Despite the small looking earbuds, they pack a mighty 13.4mm ultra-large dynamic driver. They feature LCP composite diaphragms and even support the latest AC codec, ensuring you get a pretty fantastic sound from Android and Apple devices, as well a whole host of other Bluetooth devices, of course.

I don’t think they sound any different from the old model, but they are more comfortable, which is a welcome bonus. However, the fantastic clarity and punchy bass make them a blast to listen to. From punch rock like Ghost to shredding guitars like Xoth, they didn’t skip a beat. Admittedly though, I’ve primarily used these headphones to listen to Planet Rock and make work calls while out for my walks, and they’ve just been fantastic. The sound is generally pretty great, but there is one clear advantage over the old models; the EQ! There are 12 Sonarworks profiles to choose from, and while a simple EQ may not sound special, Sonarworks do know their stuff when it comes to music production and mixing. Furthermore, I found these profiles to be far superior to the ones built into my Samsung S20+.

The headphones have excellent battery life, that’s for sure. I used the old model quite a lot and never found myself running out of power on the longer walks or train journeys. However, I’m reaching for the charger less often with the new model. Six hours between charges is REALLY impressive. Plus, with just fifteen minutes in the dock, you’ll get another three hours usage, and they’ll charge fully in around 45 minutes from fully flat.

On top of that, the dock looks cool. It’s a more stylish design than some wireless headphones on the market today, which tend to be quite blocky.

The headphones drop in and snap in magnetically, then you can chuck it in your pocket, and you’re off. Of course, remember every few days, or in my case, once a week, plug in a USB-C cable to charge the dock, and you’re ready to rock.
