2.9 Million Customers’ Account Data Stole From Adobe’s Database

Chief Security Officer for Adobe, Brad Arkin, has revealed that hackers have stolen data relating to 2.9 million customers, including IDs, names, encrypted passwords and credit card data and more. They also stole Adobe product source code. The security team at Adobe discovered what they are calling a “sophisticated attack on their network”, which involved not only the customer data but also access to the source code for numerous Adobe products.

Adobe officials have responded with the following statements:

“Our investigation currently indicates that the attackers accessed Adobe customer IDs and encrypted passwords on our systems. We also believe the attackers removed from our systems certain information relating to 2.9 million Adobe customers, including customer names, encrypted credit or debit card numbers, expiration dates, and other information relating to customer orders. At this time, we do not believe the attackers removed decrypted credit or debit card numbers from our systems.”

“We are also investigating the illegal access to source code of numerous Adobe products. Based on our findings to date, we are not aware of any specific increased risk to customers as a result of this incident.”

They have also mentioned that a full reset of all passwords for the affected customers will be made, along with sending out e-mail notifications to them. They are also contacting customers whose credit or debit card information has been compromised. They are additionally notifying the banks that process customer payments for Adobe, and have contacted federal law enforcement and will be assisting in the investigation.
