2024 Power Supply Buying Guide

be quiet! Dark Power Pro 13 1600W

be quiet! is one of the leading brands for PC hardware, with many of the best-looking and performing cases, coolers and power supplies on the market today. Obviously, they’ve always had a focus on low-noise hardware, but that hasn’t stopped them from gunning for the enthusiast market with extremely high-performance hardware too. To date, their Dark Power Pro 13 1600W is the most premium and high-end power supply I’ve ever reviewed… EVER!

Features

  • 80 PLUS Titanium efficiency (up to 94.5%)
  • ATX 3.0 PSU with full support for PCIe 5.0 GPUs and GPUs with 6+2 pin connectors
  • Handles massive power excursions
  • Fully digital control and Active Rectifier + full bridge LLC technology for unmatched signal stability
  • Improved and patented frameless Silent Wings fan for virtually inaudible operation at ordinary loads
  • Overclocking key switches between six 12V rails and one massive 12V rail
  • Aluminium case and modular individually sleeved cables for magnificent appearance
  • 10-year manufacturer’s warranty

It can deliver huge power, but also some of the best efficiency on the market thanks to its 80 Plus Titanium rating.

While also delivering the most stable voltages of any PSU we’ve tested.

Not only does this power supply deliver extremely large amounts of power that should please the requirements for any extreme workstation or gaming PC, but it’s also completely overbuilt to a truly unrivalled standard of quality. It’s also one of the very few modern power supplies that support active switching between multiple 12v rails or one single extremely powerful 12v rail. Now, many of you won’t know or care about load balancing over multiple rails, but if you’re running an extreme multi-GPU or dual CPU system with varying load requirements, this can be vital to getting the power you need, and even more so for extreme overclocking.

Being able to deliver two 40A rails, two 45A rails, and two 55A rails to combine them into one is nuts, but if you need all 1600W to one rail, well… this is about the best PSU on the market to do just that. What’s even more nuts, is in my own testing, I was able to pull a staggering 2251 Watts from this PSU before its OPP kicked in.

It is possible to get similarly large power output for less money, I will admit, but there are other aspects of this PSU that make it less about just being a wattage god in terms of power levels. It’s crafted from gorgeous black brushed aluminium, it comes with a premium Silent Wings cooling fan, and a full set of premium braided cables. This is meant to go into a PC that looks as stunning as it is one that’s going to be working hard.
