30,000-Square-Foot eSports Arena Being Developed In Las Vegas To Open in 2018

A nightclub within the Luxor Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas is being converted into a dedicated 30,000-square-foot eSports arena by Allied eSports. Just like regular sports gambling rooms in Las Vegas, visitors to the eSports arena will be able to see live matches being broadcast on the massive video wall so matches, and with a stage and viewing area, tournaments can be hosted inside as well. Visitors will also be able to use several gaming stations which will be served food and drinks while they play.

Revenue from gambling has been a steady decline in Las Vegas over the past few years and many hotels have been seeking other avenues that would be profitable. Gambling does not seem to appeal to the younger and upcoming generation which is why many have switched out many old-time entertainers for more night clubs and DJs. Building a dedicated eSports arena just makes sense from a strategic standpoint since it appeals specifically to the younger crowd, and the competitive nature of the event entices attendees to a gambling mood.

“We have very ambitious expansion plans over the next two years, and when we realized that a location at Luxor was possible, we jumped at the opportunity to develop our flagship here,” said Jud Hannigan, CEO of Allied Esports International, in a statement. “Just as Yankee Stadium, Madison Square Garden and Wembley Stadium are considered their sports’ most aspirational venues by players and fans alike, Esports Arena Las Vegas will be the iconic destination in esports and complement the city’s incredible appeal, attracting video gaming competitors and fans from around the world.”
