343 Explain Reasons For No Split-screen In Halo 5

The sofa, the resident home of the gamer for many years, and for those who remember wired controllers, the floor. I grew up with consoles and I am still a regular fan of going back and playing the “old school” games. Some of these include multiplayer and more than often a form of split screen. Split screen is where multiple players have their view on a single screen, often resulting in up to 4 players working on trust to not look at one another’s hiding places. Certain games let you play with your friends, splitting your screen to allow your friend and teammate to join the fight while sitting next to you. Halo was well-known for this both in campaign and their multiplayer, that was until 343 announced that Halo 5 would not include a split screen mode, and today we have the reason.

Frank O’conner is the Franchise Development Director for 343 Industries. After a petition for adding split-screen co-op to Halo 5 was started (with over 7 thousand supporters at the time of this article being written), O’conner has come forward to explain that the reason they aren’t able to add in split-screen is because 343 are focused on reaching the maximum resolution possible while maintaining a steady 60 frames per second (FPS). He has since suggested that maybe fans would be better off petitioning for the next Halo game to include it again.

Do you like split-screen games? What are your opinions on this, do you think you can trade in gameplay features for better graphics or should the mode have remained at the cost of the graphics?
