8 Developers Leave Kerbal Space Program Studio ‘Squad’

It seems that a large part of the Kerbal Space Program team has departed on a new mission, as eight members of Developer ‘Squad’ left the company simultaneously this week. While it seems almost obvious, this has led to the belief that update 1.2 of Kerbal Space Program may be the last major update for the game as the team moves on to new ground.

“All good things must come to an end, and so it is for us, It is time for each of us to move on from Squad. Kerbal Space Program is an incredible game and has truly been a joy to create. We have greatly enjoyed working together with such a tightly-knit, professional, and talented development team, and with such a wonderful community.” said the team on reddit.

“Signed, in no particular order, your Kerbal developers Mike (Mu), Bill (Taniwha), Nathanael (NathanKell), Sébastien (Sarbian), Jim (Romfarer), Brian (Arsonide), Chris (Porkjet), Nathan (Claw).”

Squad later confirmed to PCGamesn that the “vast majority of the team” has left, leaving two developers, a few QA staff and a small community team holding down the fort. Indicating that management issues high up, as well as unsustainable working conditions may have been factors in their decision. This isn’t surprising, however, as lead developer Felipe Falanghe left the company after another employee blasted them by saying  “Welcome to Squad; we pay you like shit, then fire you when your work is finished so we can just take it over and maintain it.”

One thing we do know, the next big update for the game is about to be released, so fans of the game have that to look forward to.

“The comments made by those former team members does not reflect the reality of our company, but in Squad we will keep moving along with our commitment of respecting and listening to all of those who want to make constructive criticism about the company or KSP.”
