A Super Rare Boxed Nintendo 64DD Development Kit Appears!

The 90’s certainly represented a unique era for gaming consoles as many of the more prolific manufacturers created various add-ons effectively looking to extend their product’s overall market lifespan. And, it should be noted, the vast majority of these were largely unsuccessful as the behemoth that was the PlayStation pretty much gobbled up everything in its path. – Getting more into the realms of the ‘vaporware’ aspect of these, however, we had the Nintendo 64DD. A device designed for use with the N64 that made it possible to play and load games from (basically) large capacity zip drives (remember those?).

It should be noted though that with these only ever officially releasing in Japan, they are exceptionally rare to find these days. Following a Twitter post by user ‘@RerezTV’, however, what he has somehow managed to get his hands on goes even further than that!

Nintendo 64DD Development Kit

Following various images posted on his social media account, ‘@RerezTV’ has somehow managed to get hold of a Nintendo 64DD Development Kit. Now, just for those of you who don’t understand the significance of this, these were not sold to the general public. They were, instead, given to game developers in order to help them create titles for the platform. As such, if the Nintendo 64DD is exceptionally rare, then the development kit for it is, basically, the rocking horse poop of console peripherals!

Fully Verified!

Now, it should be noted that the Twitter poster doesn’t actually own this system. It has, instead come into their possession via a private collector who wished for it to be verified. With this being categorically confirmed, what we find inside is truly something bordering on the holy-grail. I’m honestly struggling to think of something to compare with to highlight just how practically unique this is. I mean, it’s even in it’s original box which itself looks in practically pristine condition!

Where Can I Learn More?

I don’t pretend to understand the details and intricacies of the Nintendo 64DD and, as such, I won’t even attempt to explain some of the goodies found within the packaging. – If you do, however, want to learn more, then ‘@RerezTV‘ has various detailed pictures and descriptions on his Twitter feed and, as such, if you do want to learn more, you can check that out via the link here!
