Out of the box, the Abkoncore TN Series has a nice sleek style that continues the black and gold coloring seen in the external packaging. A particular highlight of the design, however, undoubtedly goes to the top ‘fan’ area.
With a nice hatched pattern to the vents as well as an understated logo to the center, this is a really attractive aesthetic. The only pity is that based on the overall design of the power supply (of course, depending on how you install this within your system) you probably won’t get to see much of it.
A closer look, however, really highlights just how slick this is. We’ve seen a lot of power supplies go for various looks and, without a doubt, this style is one of the best we’ve seen! It just looks great!
Continuing the promotion of good airflow seen at the top of this PSU, the rear of the power supply offers you as much ventilation as possible. This should, therefore, ensure that the Abkoncore TN Series runs nice and cool which should, by proxy, result in the fan not having to work too hard!
Finally, we take a closer look at the modular input bank. While this design doesn’t feature a ‘back to back’ design (which can make cable insertion/removal easier) the ports are well spaced and also clearly labelled to ensure you plug the right cable in the right socket!
Sadly, the cabling is not contained within any nice packaging or bag and instead simply inserts within the cardboard interior packaging of the main box. Despite this, however, the cables look excellent. The lengths are decent enough for the vast majority of systems while allowing plenty of ‘flex’ for good cable management.
In addition, each cable is clearly labelled to ensure that, when it comes to hooking up your PC, you get the right cables inserted into the correct component.
Getting inside to have a look at the Abkoncore TN Series was remarkably straight forward. Albeit, do not forget that doing so will void your 7 year warranty. At first glance, however, the layout of the main components seems excellent and the design does appear to be of a very high-quality.
A closer look at the fan reveals it to be a ‘Poweryear’ design which would suggest that Abkoncore has outsourced for this specific component rather than used one of their own fan designs. That being said, however, it looks decent enough and it should be noted that power supply fans do not necessarily have to work overly hard to achieve the desired results.
A closer look at the PCB shows that all of the main components are well spaced with two main heat sinks located well under the fan. This should result in a nice and cool performance. Albeit, the only matter of curiosity is that the PCB doesn’t ‘fit’ the case with a bit of void space noted. You can see this in the below image to the left-side.
Looking at the main capacitor, we can see that this is a Teapo designed product. Admittedly, we would have preferred to see a Japanese design rather than Taiwanese, but at least Teapo is a well-reputed and recognizable brand.
The only real downside is that the main capacitor is only rated to 85c. These days, most power supplies (even if they don’t use Japanese capacitors) often go for a minimum of 105c. We’re not saying that this specific Teapo capacitor is bad, but there are definitely better alternatives out there for power supplies.
Taking the Abkoncore TN Series design as a whole, it honestly is a lot better than we were expecting. Without meaning to sound unkind to Abkoncore, we suspected that these power supplies were either going to be really good or really bad and we’re delighted to see that it falls into the former category.
How a power supply looks, however, is only one relatively minor aspect of its overall importance. The most critical aspect boils down to how it performs, so let’s get into the testing!
