Acer have today announced the availability in North America of their first Ultrabook: the Aspire S3-951.
Just as expected, the Ultrabooks are real competitors for the Apple equivalent, and may well surpass the legendary ultra-thin laptops in terms of performances next year.
This particular model isn’t from the older tech, it features Intel’s latest second generation Core i5 processor. To boost the system, 20GB of SSD memory has been given for speedy launch, while a 320GB have been provided for storage along with 4GB of RAM memory. This first Ultrabook seems to make a leap forward in terms of performances, and even though being thin, you still find the essential connectivity features including HDMI and USB. Moreover, the Aspire S3-951 claims over 6 hours of battery life, and a total of 50 days of battery life in stand-by mode, thus challenging the ‘fruity company’ once more.
The measurements are impressive for a first, measuring just half an inch (thinner than 13mm), and weighting only around 3 lbs (less than 1.4 kg), it’s as easy to carry as a magazine or folder. All of this covered in an aluminium and magnesium chassis for durability and style.
Considering the ultra-thin 13.3” HD LED display with resolution of 1366×788 on a 16:9 aspect ratio, it really is an impressive achievement coming for a manufacturer other the Apple. As a matter of fact, its dimensions, 12.59 x 8.52 x 0.51 inches, make it one of the thinnest notebooks on the market.
Acer has gone ‘spatial’ with their latest product in their promotional video:
The Acer Aspire S3-951 will hit the storew later this week and will pop up in all the authorized retailer and etailers around the US and Canada for a suggested price of $899.
