Acer’s latest laptop the TravelMate 8481 is meant to be an ideal companion for professionals who spend a lot of time travelling. It has a fairly slim design and is extremely light while still packing in some fairly poweful components and offers several other useful features for those of you on the road.
The TravelMate 8481 has a 14″ display with a 1,366 x 768 resolution which is admittedly less than some competing models, but it makes up for it in other areas which include 8GB of RAM and a 320GB hard drive which neatly can be paired with a 64GB SSD for that perfect boot partition and optional storage.
The graphics are powered by nVidia making use of the Optimus technology, which allows it to switch automatically between a dedicated GPU and the integrated Intel HD 3000 chips. The Travelmate also has ‘Wireelss Display technology’ allowing you to connect a compatible projector or monitor without needing to be directly wired into it.
The laptop also includes a USB 3.0 port, Gigabit Ethernet as well as Bluetooth. The 8481 supposedly offers up to nine hours of battery life.
The TravelMate 8481 has a magnesium-aluminium chassis and has an anti-shock hard drive enclosure and an ‘anti-dust system’ to keep the cooling system effective.
Price will be around £699 ex-VAT in the UK market and will be available sometime in August. Details of the US market are currently unknown.
