Acer’s Predator range is designed to provide a premium PC gaming experience and doesn’t make any major concessions to reach a lower price point. So far, the Predator line-up has included desktop systems, laptops and even G-Sync monitors with a high refresh rate. The company’s latest creation, dubbed, the Predator 21 X is the world’s first gaming notebook with a curved display. The screen measures a whopping 21-inches, has a resolution of 2560×1080 and supports G-Sync. Unfortunately, the refresh rate hasn’t been divulged but further details should be revealed relatively soon.
Additionally, Acer has implemented the Tobii eye-tracking technology which allows you to focus on objects and perform commands based on eye movements. I’ve personally tried it and couldn’t believe how well the technology worked in a wide range of mainstream games. It’s certainly a wonderful addition and could revolutionise the control method in certain genres.
On another note, the Predator 21 X ships with SoundPound 4.2+ (4 speakers and 2 subwoofers), 3-way audio and Dolby. The device supports the latest 7th Generation Intel Core processors and houses two NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 graphic cards in SLI. When it comes to cooling, the notebook utilises 5 system fans, 3 of which are ultra-thin Aeroblade metal fans which can dissipate heat in an effective manner and ensure the CPU doesn’t throttle. Acer even included a full-sized mechanical keyboard featuring Cherry MX switches, and customizable per-key backlighting. The numeric keypad has an unusual design which allows the unit to flipped over and used as a touchpad. In terms of dimensions, the laptop measures 568 x 314.5 x 83.25mm (WxDxH), and weighs 8Kg. Unbelievably, it requires two power supplies and I dread to think what kind of battery life is possible.
This is a very impressive gaming laptop but the huge size makes it unsuitable for travelling. As a result, I’m not entirely convinced by the concept and expecting to see a really high asking price.
