During a recent financial earnings call for the fourth quarter of Fiscal Year 2016, Activision has revealed a few details regarding its plans for the future, which apparently include the release of a “full” Destiny sequel. Obviously, this new game could provide more in-game revenue growth for the company, especially since Activision revealed last year that it plans to bring in millions of new fans to this particular franchise. COO Thomas Tippl issued the following statement during Activision’s earnings call in November 2016:
“Activision and our talented partners at Bungie are hard at work on a sequel to Destiny which should energize both Destiny’s passionate fan base and bring millions of new fans to the franchise next year.”
In turn, CFO Dennis Durkin, also had a few words to say:
“We’re on track and excited about what we think is going to be an awesome sequel for Destiny in 2017. No announcements today on timing just yet, but what I will say is that the sequel is designed to excite both our highly engaged current players, but also to broaden the appeal even further, bringing in new fans and bringing back old fans as well. That’s our primary focus right now.”
Judging from what we know so far, it’s probably safe to assume that the Destiny sequel will launch officially by the end of 2017 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles. We haven’t heard anything about a potential PC release just yet, but we’ll definitely keep you posted.
