Activision finally get hold of the ModernWarfare3.com domain

It could have caused a lot more trouble had the outcome of the court case been different but fortunately for Activision they were able to get the domain name www.modernwarfare3.com after it had been acquired by a member of the general public who is a Battlefield 3 fanboy to say the least.

The website was used for months on end to redirect to the Battlefield 3 website and spread the BF3 gospel whilst denouncing Modern Warfare 3. In court the domain name owner Anthony Abraham claimed the term “modern warfare” was a generic term that Activision had no legal entitlement too. He had registered the domain privately with GoDaddy and upon complaints they released the WHOIS domain registrar information. After this was done he was taken to court. His argument of it being a generic term did not stand up in court and he was forced to cede the domain name to Activision although the terms of the deal are not known. Even more interesting is the fact EA had no involvement with the domain name and what it was doing but the least they can do is offer Anthony Abraham a free copy of the Battlefield 3 game after all he did to promote it.
