Taking the unit of the box, the first thing we have to commend ADATA for, is how compact it is. Given that it houses a 5000mAh battery, wireless connectivity and space for the SD slot on one end and USB on the other, its done well for such a small footprint. On the top we can get a better look at the honeycomb like textured pattern that finishes off the look of the unit with a plain band the runs along the middle, much like the HE720 that we looked at not too long ago. Towards the leading edge we can see three blocks of the honeycomb are black and this is in fact the single button needed to change the units operating mode and turn it on/off.

On the upper end of the AE400 we find the SD slot which supports SD/SDHC and SDXC memory card formats with no limit on capacity.

On the opposite end, we find two USB ports, the micro-USB to the left which charges the device and the full sized port to the right for connecting USB drives for data streaming and also your phone / tablet for charging. To the left of the USB charge port there is a small hole for the rest button.

The clear band on the top of the drive has a translucent portion to the left hand side through which a number of status LEDs can be seen. On the left three LEDs (Green, Orange and Red) indicate the units current battery level from 100-50%, 50-25% and 25% to empty. next to this there is a green led for SD card connectivity, battery charging, and two LEDs (blue and green) that indicate connectivity to a mobile device and internet.
