Anvil’s Storage Utilities is free to download benchmarking utility and has the ability to test hard drives and solid state drives, but also any other form of storage medium that you can throw at it. As well as testing the drive in a variety of benchmarking tests, it also has a drive endurance test that consistently reads and writes data to the selected medium to give days, months and potentially even years of use in a shorter period of time to see how the drive copes in the longer term.
We don’t expect a hard drive to give high IOPs so in Anvil’s we focus more on the response time of the external drive. Sequentially the response time is around 36ms although on a 4k file size this drops right down to as low as 8ms. These are around the average times that we expect from a 2.5″ hard drive so we do get pretty average performance on the whole.
