ADATA Introduces the HD710M and HD710A Pro External Drives

External Hard Drives with IP68 Durability

ADATA is introducing two new external drives for users who want rugged toughness. The HD710M Pro and HD710A Pro are two high-performance drives featuring IP68 rating. This means they are much durable than previous ADATA external drives.

The Ingress-Protection rating number refers to the device’s resistance to dust particles (first digit) and liquid (second digit). Particle resistance goes from 0 to 6, while water-resistance goes from 0 to 9. So IP68 means that the HD710M Pro and HD710A Pro feature full dust/particle resistance and continuous liquid submersion. The only thing higher is IP69 which would mean it is fully pressure protected under water submersion.

What is the Difference Between the HD710M Pro and HD710A Pro?

How does it keep dust and liquid away? Simple. Triple layer protection. This allows for submersion up to 60 minutes in 2 meters of water and still fully operational when you pull it out. Which is probably why ADATA decided to put in a military camouflage theme to the HD710M Pro. As you might have guessed, that’s what the “M” stands for in that name.

The HD710A Pro on the other hand, features a more elegant minimalist theme. The “A” stands for Apple as the white colour and goes well with Apple’s minimalist aesthetics. The HD710A Pro also comes with the Apple HFS+ system and supports Apple Time Machine. Both are available up to 2TB capacities and utilizes the USB 3.1 interface.

How Much Does It Cost?

In the UK, the 1TB version costs 69.99 GBP. There is no word yet on how much the 2TB version costs.
