Pricing
Memory cards, like USB flash drives, are something that the public eye feels is overpriced for what they are and whilst they are a little overpriced these days for a basic card, the higher performance models are not too overpriced either. ADATA’s Premier Pro microSDHC does come in towards the upper end of the pricing ladder for microSDHC cards at a shade under £60. Whilst this is close to the £2/GB mark, we have to take into account that not too long ago cards of this format and capacity were not even available, let alone affordable.
Overview
When looking to buy a memory card, there are only a handful of variables that come into play. Obviously all memory cards are going to be the same size and weight so obviously these are not going to set one card apart from another. Where we focus our attention is on the performance that the card has to give and the price that you have to pay for the privilege. Given the high 32GB capacity and the relative performance that is on offer, the card isn’t too bad in terms of performance for the cost, however it would be good to see the card actually run somewhat near to the rated speeds. Whilst the speeds that we did experience were only 7-8MB/s lower than what ADATA rate, this does equate to around 15% lower than expected.
It has to be said though that if you’re looking for a card that will be able to take the workload over a lifetime, then ADATA clearly have a tick in the box with a lifetime warranty. What it really comes down to is selecting the right card for your needs. If you’re simply looking for a high-capacity card to stick into your phone for storing photos and games on for example, then this is likely to be overkill for your needs. If your intended use is high-definition video recording, then this card is right in the game with its higher read and write speeds.
Due to the fact that the performance was a little away from the rated speeds I can’t award this card on its performance, however I will say that it is a strong contender in the market and coming from a world-class vendor is certainly going to make this item more desirable in the long run.
Pros:
Cons:
“With so many memory cards to choose from these days and with only a small number of variables that can be tweaked, it takes a lot to stand out from the crowd. ADATA’s Premier Pro 32GB microSDHC card may not be as fast as expected, but it is still one of the best cards out there on the market for anyone looking for a performance option.”
