ADATA has launched a new SSD drive that can bring both performance and capacity to almost any system. The new SSSD is the Ultimate SU900 and it is a classic 2.5-Inch SATA3 6Gbps drive. The Ultimate SU900 is built upon 3D NAND flash storage, but not TLC. Thanks to the use of the newest MLC NAND, the drive can offer both capacity and performance.
Besides the high-grade 3D MLC NAND in the SU900, there’s also a Silicon Motion SMI2258 controller. While that’s great, one of the key selling points for this drive will be its capacity options. With up to 2TB capacity, there’s plenty of space for your game library, media files, apps, and operating systems. The raw performance is improved by a performance-boosting SLC Cache Buffer and DRAM Cache. For data integrity, the SU900 offers LDPC error correction, data shaping, wear leveling, and RAID Engine.
The performance of the ADATA SU900 is rated for up to 560MB/s when reading and up to 525MB/s when writing. The random performance is equally nice with ratings up to 85K IOPS reading and 90K IOPS writing.
Endurance shouldn’t be a problem for the SU900 either as it has a TBW (total bytes written) rating of up to 800TB and an MTBF (mean time before failure) of 2,000,000 hours. That also shows in the warranty of the drive which is covered for 5 years.
The package includes both a 2.5mm spacer to make the drive compatible with 9.5mm drive trays as well as a 3.5-inch bracket for use in larger drive bays. While ADATA didn’t reveal a price for the top capacities, the smaller versions will have an MSRP of £89.90 for 256GB and £169.90 for 512GB. That is about £0.35 and £0.33 per GB.
