ADATA Releasing SX9000 M.2 SSD with Marvell Controller

ADATA posted recently on Twitter their latest SX9000 M.2 SSD, equipped with a Marvell 88S1093 controller. It will be officially unveiled at Computex 2017 next week, according to the storage and memory manufacturer. The teaser photo shows a 1TB size drive in an M.2 2280 form factor and has a distinct XPG red PCB compared to the previously released XPG SX7000 and XPG SX8000 M.2 SSDs.

The SX7000 and SX8000 use a Silicon Motion controller, using 3D TLC and 3D MLC NAND respectively. Although ADATA did not disclose any information yet, we can gleam from the product number that it will be using 3D TLC NAND. The Marvell 88S1093 controller is the first NVMe controller from Marvell. This is what is used on the Plextor M8Se M.2 drive reviewed here at eTeknix recently. It is also on the Western Digital Black PCIe x4 NVMe M.2 series drives. However, Western Digital uses SanDisk 15nm TLC planar NAND while Plextor uses Toshiba 15nm 3D TLC.

Another Upcoming M.2 SSD from ADATA?

ADATA also teased this other M.2 SSD a few days earlier prior to the SX9000 SSD announcement. It is using a black PCB and has a heatsink. ADATA responded that it is a completely new drive when asked whether it is an updated model. Since the SX9000 is using the Marvell 88S1093 controller, this new drive with heatsink could possibly be using the same one but with 3D MLC NAND instead.
