ADATA Showcase Enterprise Solutions at CES 2018

ADATA is a lot more than a company producing memory cards and portable storage solutions, they also have a broad lineup of enterprise solutions and brought some of them along to CES 2018. ADATA is a far bigger company than most people realise and their products are found in most homes. Embedded and smart systems, your TV and NAS devices, a lot of them use ADATA storage and memory products on the inside.

ADATA IM3P33E1 NVMe SSD

Server systems require different components than consumer systems, that’s nothing new. M.2 modules were designed for the latter and that creates issues for server systems. There simply isn’t enough PCB space on a 2280 module. While the 22110 modules do offer 3cm more PCB, it isn’t feasible on motherboards such as the latest EPYC boards. So, it’s time for something new and that is M.3. The ADATA IM3P33E1 is such a drive and it expands in width rather than length.

While the form factor changes, the rest doesn’t. The IM3P33E1 is a PCIe Gen.3 x4 drive with 32Gbps capabilities. The read performance is rated up to 3200MB/s and the write performance comes in at 1800MB/s. The drive features LDPCC ECC and RAID engines which both are relevant.

As for capacity options, you get everything from 240GB to 1.92TB options with these new M.3 modules.

ADATA SR2000SP PCIe U.2 SSD

Storage modules, whether they’re mSATA, M.2, or the new M.3, aren’t always the thing either. Sometimes you need something more solid with easy hot-swap options. That’s where the U.2 form factor comes into play. With that, we’ve gotten to the ADATA SR2000SP.

The ADATA SR2000SP is a PCIe Gen.3 x4 32Gbps drive in U.2 form factor. It utilizes 3D eTLC NAND for a performance of up to 3200MB/s when reading and 2400MB/s when writing.

The SR2000SP features end-to-end data protection which is a vital feature and it comes with an MTBF of 2.1 million hours. The capacity is something worth noting as the SR2000 goes up to 8TB capacity.

ADATA DDR4 NV DIMM Type N Memory Modules

A thing that we haven’t seen in the consumer sector yet are the NV DIMM modules which combine DRAM with solid-state storage. ADATA had such modules with them too and sadly they’re still only for the enterprise sector.

The benefits are easy to see. Increased performance and reliability enhancements with power loss protection in the event of a system crash or sudden power loss.

A Little Bit for the Consumer

Those were a whole lot of cool products for the enterprise market, but ADATA also had a little something for the consumer market with them. The XPG division handles the consumer market and from this series, we saw the SX8200 NVMe SSD.

ADATA’s XPG SX8200 uses 3D TLC NAND for a performance of up to 3200 MB/s when reading and 1700MB/s when writing. It uses the latest NVMe 1.3 standard and features intelligent SLC caching and a DRAM cache buffer. As the enterprise drives, the SX8200 also features LDPC ECC and RAID engines.

Capacity wise, we’re starting at 240GB and going all the way up to 1.92TB with the XPG SX8200.

While there are a lot of similarities between the enterprise and consumer drives, there are differences too. ADATA has listed them all on their display test-system.
