At the time of this review, ADATA’s new XPG GAMMIX S11 with 480GB capacity can be yours through Amazon for $229.99 or £188.26.
Normally, there isn’t a whole lot to talk about in regard to the design on M.2 SSDs. After all, they’re just PCBs with a few chips. The situation changes when we deal with drives which have a heatsink. The XPG GAMMIX S11 has that, and it looks awesome. If you got a red and black gaming setup, it’ll match perfectly. The waved design of the heatsink itself looks smooth and great too.
A heatsink isn’t just for looks, it also helps with the heat generated. An NVMe controller generates quite a bit of heat which won’t be an issue for this drive. It should decrease the overall drive temperate by about 10 degrees, thereby preventing thermal throttling. And throttling is a thing we really don’t want during an extensive gaming session.
The drive performance really well and comes with a 5-year warranty on top. It is one of the fastest drives that I’ve reviewed. TLC NAND does have an impact in some tests, but that’s the same for any drive utilising that kind of NAND chips. Still, the drive does really well and lands in the top area of most our comparison charts.
Among the features you get from the ADATA XPG GAMMIX S11, is LDPC ECC for data integrity, DevSleep for lower power consumption, RAID engine for multi-drive setups, and SLC caching for a performance boost.
“ADATA knows a thing or two about memory chips and gaming. If you combine the two areas, you get the XPG GAMMIX S11 SSD which would be great in any gaming system.”
