AMD finally debuted their high-end desktop Threadripper platform in early August with the 1950X and the 1920X. These 16-core and 12-core CPUs are much more affordable alternatives in comparison to Intel’s Skylake-X i9 CPUs, and AMD is promising to offer even more CPUs to fill the lineup.
With the new 1900X, AMD finally has an HEDT CPU under $600 for only $549 USD. This is an 8-core/16-threaded solution similar to the Ryzen 1800X but on the X399 HEDT platform. This means it gets the full 64 PCIe lanes available to Threadripper CPUs which are not available for the Ryzen X370 mainstream desktop platform.
More importantly, now more users can take advantage of having 64 PCIe 3.0 lanes while paying a lot less for Intel’s HEDT platform and CPU. Intel’s HEDT processors do not have as much PCIe 3.0 lanes available on their more affordable processors. In fact, it is only available on the high-end models which would cost users hundreds of dollars more. Even without buying the motherboard.
The best part is that AMD is also making a promise of releasing an update which enables bootable NVMe RAID. This makes sense since this feature is one big advantage that Intel can offer over AMD’s Threadripper. The company promises that this is going to be a free update. Although users would have to wait until September 25, while their engineers work out some of the bugs to ensure a smooth launch.
