Usage: Logging, Notification, and Ressource Monitor
A headless device such as a NAS need a good logging and notification system, and QNAP’s QTS has this too.
Logging and Notification
The logging is divided into various categories with the basic system events being the first page.
Notifications in the event that you need to take actions can be sent by email, but also through SMS services and as push notifications to your mobile system. QNAP supports Android and iOS devices, but sadly not Windows Mobile.
Resource Monitor
The resource monitor is better than ever. It doesn’t just provide a lot of details, it also looks good.
All the various hardware aspects can be viewed in details, such as the CPU utilisation.
The memory page includes the physical memory as well as the swap memory file. The page shows all the various uses too, not just an overall usage.
The network utilisation is as you would expect it from the previous screenshots.
Storage is key in a NAS, after all, that’s why we use the devices. As such, it’s important with a great view of those resources too and their usage.
The last function in the resource monitor is the process list. It is an easy way to find a possible process hog among running tasks.
A more general system status is also available. it will list things like the installed processor and memory along with firmware and other information.
Available services from installed functions are also found here. A quick and easy way to check up on what’s running and what isn’t, without having to visit each function individually.
