Testing Scenarios

Most of the devices which I test can be benchmarked with results that are easily read out and compared. It isn’t like that for a device like the Airtame which isn’t testable in the same sense. That means that you’ll have to rely a lot more on my opinion which I’ll try to convey the best I can.

Mismatching Resolutions

Airtame supports up to Full-HD with 60 FPS which easily is sufficient for the intended purposes. An attempt at more could easily have ruined the overall experience which currently is as close to perfect as it’s possible.

When it comes to my PCs and general setup, I’ve long abandoned HD resolutions and moved onto 4K. That offers the opportunity to test how Airtame handles it when the input and output resolutions don’t match. My 2-in-1 laptop isn’t classic 1080p either, it’s a 1200p HD display.

The 4K downscaling to Full-HD works great and you can’t tell any difference on the output monitor. That’s a big plus as you won’t have to change your resolution in order to stream to another monitor via Airtame. That would eliminate the ease-of-use which makes the Airtame so great. Streaming from my 1200p laptop did create an image with black borders, but that’s a given. The aspect ratio has to match or it will happen. It can’t be avoided when you mirror.

Video and Audio Streaming

Most of the time, Airtame will be used for PowerPoint presentations, websites, and slides. All these don’t require a lot of performance in the streaming department. On the other hand, video and audio do.

As such, these are vital aspects to check out and I naturally did so. The easiest way to test it is by running a video and starting the stream. I launched VLC, threw a bunch of TV shows into the playlist and started the whole thing. I then went to the living room TV where I connected the Airtame to take a break and watch my shows.

Should you experience lags, then Airtame allows you to send the signal with a time buffer. Add a couple seconds time and you’ll have the safety of a lag-free experience. In the case that it happens, it’s most likely due to the network connectivity. Try to adjust the position of the dongle or the access point it is connected to.

Partial Conclusion

All my tests ran as smooth as possible. I didn’t run into a single problem, not a single issue, and not a single thing I had to look up. The onscreen guides and general simplicity of the Airtame and its apps make the whole experience a joy. Despite the user-friendliness, the Airtame is packed with features you won’t find other places. Not like this.
