Pricing and Conclusion

Pricing

Airtame can be yours from a starting price of €249.00, but that is only if you get 10 or more devices at once. The single price is €299.00. There’s a middle price for users buying 3+ which is €269.00. Amazon also lists the Airtame in the US for $299 and in the UK for £289.20.

Conclusion

Airtame is a perfect example of Danish design. Danish design is well known around the world and it is one of their main exports. It is a simple device with but beautiful outside and excellently designed internals which goes beyond what’s expected.

The package is complete in regard to accessories. You get a power supply for the cases where your monitor’s USB port isn’t powerful enough and an HDMI extension cable. Both could have been optional, but they are included. Ethernet and PoE adapters are extra, should you need those.

Setup and installation were as easy as it could have been. It took just a few minutes from start until the end and it doesn’t require any form of technical knowledge from the user.

Before we get to the performance and features as such, I should note that Airtame isn’t intended for home use as much as it is for enterprises and institutions. Home users will be better off with something simple as a Chromecast. But they don’t offer that Airtame does for system administrators. The ability to centrally manage them and the number of customisation abilities move it into a class of its own.

The performance was great in my tests. I had a great signal strength from start until the end and I could stream my desktop, photos, videos, and audio without any trouble. I did have to add a small buffer of 2 seconds for the video, but that was to be expected. Airtame also handled downscaling from 4K monitors without any issues. It looked as good as if the source would have been Full HD too.

Pros

  • Easiest setup possible
  • Flexible yet easy to configure
  • Central management through a cloud panel
  • Still picture, video, and audio transfer options

Cons

  • Mobile apps aren’t “there” yet and need some work.

“Airtame is a new and simple approach to video streaming. The concept as such isn’t new, but no one has done it like Airtame before. A dream coming true for the system admins in charge of streaming situations.”
