PerformanceOur test for such a device is fairly simple. Plug in the selected hard drive via a normal SATA II connection and take read and write speeds using HDD Speed, and then repeat but using the Akasa Baymaster S to plug the hard drive into. After taking several repeats of the previously defined test these were the results we found.

As you can see the Akasa Baymaster S does give good performance, although theoretically USB 3.0 is faster than the SATA II connection we used. This does unfortunately show that the Akasa Baymaster doesn’t get the best performance out of the drive, and of course this deficit would only increase as the transfers speed increased – if for instance we used an SSD.

While these results aren’t brilliant, they certainly aren’t bad. The SATA II connection is a lot more direct and so we would expect to see higher performance. So in that respect the Akasa Baymaster S gives fairly good performance, and certainly has more headroom if you were to use a faster drive.
