Final ThoughtsFor a change I’m going to start with the positives, this is a brilliant little device. If you have any SATA drives in your computer, or lying around then this is the perfect device for you. It allows you to use that drive as a plug and play device, and while it isn’t pretty – you can always see the drive on your desk etc – it is absolutely brilliant in emergencies when you are trying to salvage files off a dying hard drive. It is perfect for doing the backups that we are all very reluctant to do.

There are of course a few disadvantages of using such a device, one is that it is just an adapter, it isn’t an enclosure, so having an exposed hard drive on your desk doesn’t quite fit in with most peoples ‘looks’, on top of that mechanical hard drives can be quite noisy and of course it gives no sound proofing. On the other hand, you can just plug in any sized SATA drive, with no need to search for a screwdriver or SATA cables, and be able to access all of your files pretty quickly. I have to admit that I am a fan of simplicity, and while it is simple to use they haven’t compromised performance and that makes it a brilliant device.

Of course, you might prefer a more permanent looking Hard Drive Enclosure, but that day will come when you want to plug in a new or old drive quickly and it will take you time. Maybe this difference comes down to personal preference, but there are certainly lots of advantages to a device like this, and while it doesn’t offer sound proofing, good looks or a design for the desk it does perform well.

While it is priced at a very reasonable £19.12 at Scan.co.ukwe can’t exactly call that anything other than good value for money. It is a very simple addition for your computer but could easily be one of the most practical devices you have ever purchased.
