AKRacing Office Series Obsidian Chair Review

A Closer Look – The Finished Product
When all the parts come together, the AKRacing Office Series Obsidian Chair looks absolutely fantastic. While some may not like it’s ‘black’ design. Many will love the really professional look it gives. It’s a chair that wouldn’t look out of place in any environment be it for work or for play.
On the surface, the Obsidian Chair may suffer a little for being a bit too bland. As we noted earlier, the closest this gets to ‘bling’ is the spokes effect to the wheels. When you get up close though, you realise that this isn’t about assaulting your eyes with bright and bold colours, it’s about assaulting your senses with high-level of comfort.
In terms of looks, this chair is simply fantastic. I would honestly own this myself as it includes all of the creature comforts you could want while still looking more than professional in any setting.
Comfortable Seat
While you might have concerns over the feel of pleather (and we admit, it’s not the nicest sounding work in the dictionary) the Obsidian Chair is exceptionally comfortable. This is in no small part due to the fantastic level of cushioning, support, but also the high-quality of the support rests.
While many chairs offer these supports as standard, usually they are horrifically hard. With the AKRacing Office Series Obsidian Chair though, they are honestly exceptionally comfortable. Trust me, if you have preferred to not use these in the past (which I include myself in) these ones will change your mind completely. Not only are they firm, but they’re also surprisingly soft and malleable.
Adjustable Arm Rests
The armrests feel solid and well very made. A slight detraction from the overall design is that they are not notably padded or covered. It seems a shame that with the quality that has gone into the overall design, that these are rather bland. On the plus side though, they are full height and length adjustable and can also angle inwards or outwards. You won’t struggle to get these where you want them. The height is controlled via a tab while the angle and extension are altered through a little manual force.
Neat Stitching
It’s a point we’ve highlighted throughout this review, but it is worth saying again. The stitching quality of the Obsidian Chair is truly excellent. It’s a major feature of a top manufacturing process when the ststitchings barely visible and while it is there, you can’t see it unless you pay really close attention. This is an exceptionally well-made chair.
Laid Back
The chair can be reclined to around 180 degrees. In chair terms, that is certainly rather a long way to go back! In terms of comfort though, this really is excellent. It does get a little bit concerning when you’re this far back and the ‘soft tilt’ also decides to kick in. As such, I daresay a few ‘trust-building’ exercises will be necessary and you will almost certainly want to ‘lock’ that feature before you go this far back. If you do, however, like to occasionally ‘flop out’ (maybe for a short nap between rounds of Overwatch) this is certainly a great place to do it!
Just to give you an idea of how far this does recline, we have included the picture below. Remember though, as above, with the ‘soft tilt’ this does go even further back to make you practically fully horizontal.
The tilt is controlled by the handle to the side of the chair. The handle itself feels very sturdy and there is something rather satisfying about operating it. We should note that on your way back up, the chair has been designed to do this relatively slowly to stop the backrest slamming into you.
