Graphics are really one of Alan Wakes strong points, as I said in the system requirements section, this game really makes my GPU work hard. It’s working hard for a reason too as the game environments are beautifully detailed throughout. Textures are excellent, physics cause trees and plants to flow in the woods and light sources cast stunning shadows through the thick night time setting.
You’re main weapon against the evil that lurks in the dark is a torch and the high fidelity of the graphics really lends it’s self to the dark setting of the game, as you can still make out plenty of detail and scenery even with the subtle moon lighting and your torch throughout.
Voice acting is a big part of Alan Wake, with constant dialogue and narration from Alan throughout the game really bringing you into the mind of the writer and his situation. This is all helped by some fantastic voice acting for everyone else in the game, for once a game has voice acting that doesn’t make you cringe.
Sound track is great too, while it’s not a music heavy game it does feature all the usual cinematic cues that you would expect from a horror game. Not to mention the intro and outro music at the end of each episode, which really add’s to the whole cinematic vibe of the game.
