A little while ago, we told you that Alphabet’s Project Loon has made some significant progress regarding the overall number of balloons needed for the project’s success, and now it appears that the project has lost its leader just six months after he signed up for the job. Tom Moore, a satellite executive that took on the role of CEO for the project has decided to leave the position after just six months, but since nobody has issued an official comment on a possible reason for this, all we can tell you is that he’s been replaced by Alastair Westgarth.
Alastair Westgarth is a wireless industry expert whose goals probably align more with Alphabet’s X division, and we’ll just have to wait and see how the balloon project will advance under his guidance. Tom’s departure did come as a bit of a surprise, especially since the company put quite a bit of faith in him and his vision. The likely truth is that he left because of personal reasons, and there hasn’t really been any drama regarding his departure. Hopefully, Project Loon will enjoy some much-needed stability from now on, especially since this particular Alphabet endeavour will ultimately benefit countless people who live in the world’s remote areas.
