Home voice activated hubs are getting more in vogue every passing week. Although not the leader like Google, Amazon has never been one to shy away from innovation are currently leading the way with their Alexa. They just keep adding and adding and at present has ‘15,000’ unique ‘skills’. Massively more than any of its current competitors.
The home voice market is really competitive at the moment. As a purchaser, it’s hard to know where to put your money. You obviously want something good, but at the same time don’t want to buy the product that loses in the long run. Worse, you may end up with the better product that fails to sell. Betamax was in many ways superior to VHS and that still lost.
If you did have such concerns, I would wholeheartedly for the moment have to back the Amazon Alexa. It might not be the most popular brand, but my word is Amazon backing it!
Initially releasing with 5,000 ‘actions’, the Alexa now has 15,000 according to NextPowerUp. It’s not just actions either, we reported recently how Amazon wanted it to have a more human voice.
Just how badly is it beating the competition? Well, from a utilisation stand point, quite heavily.
Google Assistant has just over 350 actions, Microsofts Cortana not even 100. Amazon’s push for 3rd party support, however, it makes it the most interactive choice at the moment and there are no signs that they’re stopping. It seems clear that they want to win this fight by offering the most options and support. The Amazon Alexa is working hard to provide as much 3rd party support as it can. Something in fairness its competitors are struggling to address. The figures clearly indicate that if it’s a case that they can’t keep up, it’s looking more likely that they are not bothering or moving at all!
Amazon may not necessarily be the first name you might reel off when listing these products, but it seems pretty clear they want to be. As I started with, Amazon may not be the innovator that Google is, but what they do get involved with, they generally do very well.
If I was going to use one, today at least, Amazon would win my support.
