Yet again Amazon are squabbling with a popular studio, a month or so ago, Amazon fell out with Warner Bros, refusing to put DVDs and Blue-Rays on pre-order for major titles such as Transcendence and 300: Rise of an Empire. They have also been having a dispute with the publisher Hachette. Now they are taking on Disney.
In what seems to be a dispute over money, Amazon don’t seem to be stocking any of Disneys new blockbusters. Thich means no pre-ordering Guardians of the Galaxy on DVD or Blu-Ray at the moment, the same can be seen for Maleficent, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Muppet’s Most Wanted. Amazon says that they are using these tactics to “Negotiate acceptable terms” and “keeping value high for its customers” Its a bold move by Amazon as surely if the items are not available customers will go elsewhere.
With this business practice becoming more popular with Amazon, is this now how they are going to be getting their own way? Essentially they are either making publishers and studios give in to their demands or lose a large part of their audience. Calling a truce will benefit both Amazon and Disney as both of them are set to make a lot of money from these large titles. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.
