Amazon Begin Photographing Your Front Door

Amazon to photo your front door!

Hows your front door looking these days? Fabulous or a little bit tired? Well, bear in mind that regardless of how it looks, it might soon be subject to several photographs.

In an effort to address the number of reported lost or stolen deliveries, Amazon has started rolling out a policy that their drivers must take a photo as proof of delivery.

The reason for the photographs

It’s sadly a matter of trust, or lack of it, that the company has for its consumers. While doorstep thefts of Amazon packages do happen, the company has found that too many people are reporting stolen or lost deliveries which of course costs the company many millions to rectify.

Therefore, in a report via the Guardian, Amazon delivery drivers are being instructed to take a photograph confirming that the delivery has been made to the property.

How does the system work?

In reports confirmed by Twitter posts, once the delivery has been made, the recipients are contacted by social media and are even sent a copy of the photograph taken.

This new step taken by the company has only at present been implemented within certain cities in the US, presumably those which have the highest reports of stolen parcels, but the innovative solution doesn’t seem to be a problem to any of the consumers.

A surprising, but not surprising decision

What may surprise you is that Amazon has chosen not to announce this latest innovation. Then again, if you think about it, why would that? A little demon on my shoulder seems to think that Amazon want to catch somebody out in the act of attempting to claim a delivery wasn’t made.

While this system has not been rolled out outside the US as of yet, if successful, I daresay this will become a standard for their courier deliveries.
